Martin over at gHacks has managed to get his hands on a copy of Windows Vista through his day job, and he’s already setting about getting to grips with the new OS.
So far, he doesn’t appear to be very impressed with the new visual eye-candy that is wasting lots of RAM. He has managed to reduce his Vista RAM usage by 60MB to 370MB, by making the following changes:
Disabling the Sidebar
Changing the Design to Windows Classic
Changing the Background image to one colour
Disabling the Windows Firewall and Bitdefender
I wouldn’t suggest following Martin’s lead and disabling the security features (Martin doesnt’ use a firewall) though, unless you really know what you are doing!
